About Us

Maplewoods Pottery is located in a wooded area in Central Illinois. A creek bounds three sides of our property. Nature is the inspiration for our pottery.

I am assisted by my husband when he isn't busy cooking down maple sap to make syrup or tending the bees in the apiary.

We are inspired by the many species of trees that surround our studio and by other features in nature. We do not produce the same exact piece of pottery over and over. Each piece is unique.

We gather and use the leaves of the maples, sycamores, oaks and pawpaw as patterns or imprints for most of our pieces. We also create trays that are the actual shape of the leaves. Many people tell us they use them to set candles on or for candy dishes.
